Logo’s are an important factor for companies, groups and individuals. Usually the logo is the first thing you notice about a particular product, artist or company and can be influence your first impression of what they’re all about. So we recently met to discuss and redesign our logo with the help of graphic designer Eamon Gracias. We went through the things that are most important to us as a band and what we want to share with others through our music. We came up with a list of ideas and multiple designs, but we finally settled on one. Each of the elements in the design have a reason to be there, and some sort of meaning behind them.
The first thing you may notice is the mountain and the trees. These are there to indicate our love of adventure and exploration, spending time outdoors appreciating the beauty of nature and the world. We want to encourage people to take the time to have adventures and explore the world through our music. To just stop for a moment and marvel at the beauty of it all. The mountain also represents the fact that life can be a tough journey to reach our goals. Sometimes they may seem very distant, like the summit of a mountain. But nothing beats the thrill of reaching the peak and staring out at the glorious view. That’s what makes the whole struggle and journey feel worthwhile.
The three trees represent the three founding members of the band who are all related by family ties, just as the name suggests. Trees are fitting imagery of this, as you have family trees and roots of upbringing and growth which connect us together. Just as trees can grow, so can our music and the members of the band. Trees drop leaves and seeds, and those seeds can grow into new trees which either become part of the forest, or can grow to make a new forest. We are open to have many more members to join our band in whatever way they are able, for as long as they want. We also want to inspire others to create beautiful and amazing art in any way they are gifted. Whether that be music, drawing, painting, photography and so on. The trees not only represent the three founding members, but also the three foundations of music, and what makes a good song; melody, rhythm and pitch which reflect the soul, mind and body. When all these factors work in harmony with well crafted lyrics, that’s when a great song is created.
If you look closely above the trees you’ll see there are a few stars dotted over them. The stars represent those sparks of inspiration and little specks of light that are sometimes just enough to get you through the darkest of times. We want our music to inspire people to be a light to others and to spread their light until the whole sky is ablaze. There is one constellation among those stars and that is the Southern Cross, which represents our homeland Australia and is featured on our national flag.
Under the trees you will notice a cabin or house; this represents the importance of home and family to us. When you go out on adventures and explore the great big world it is essential to have a place to come back to, where your loved ones are. Without family and home I don’t know where we’d be. Through our music we want to create a safe space, a family and community for others to come and feel wanted and loved, because we are all related in some way; whether that is by birth or adoption, through race, religion or friendship, we are all humans traveling through this life together.
If you look across from the house you will see a campfire. There is just something special about sitting around a nice toasty fire, putting the phones away and having good conversations and telling stories with friends, or bringing out the guitar and singing songs together. We’ve found that some of the most enjoyable and special times are the simple ones. When we share an escape from the busyness of the world and warm each other’s hearts by spending quality time together.
To tie the whole logo together we have the name “All Related”, the title of the band, at the bottom of the design. This is the foundation of our music, holding together everything we do. We want this logo and more importantly, our music, to inspire you to have adventures with friends and family, embracing the fact that we are all brothers and sisters, in this crazy, diverse human family, (preferably involving plenty of singing around a campfire under the starry night sky.)
