This is a song about breaking out of the mold society has set for us, and standing up and fighting for what you believe in. It’s about singing the song that only you were born to sing, and living the life that only you can live. It’s about living out your passions and offering the world something that only you can give.
I originally wrote it last year as an acoustic song, but we reworked the lyrics to fit the awesome piano piece Paul came up with during a jamming session with our friend Aodhan (the short acoustic part at the start was the bridge from the original song).
Since I first heard it I’ve always loved this quote from G.K.Chesterton’s book, The Everlasting Man; “A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.” I hope this song inspires you to go against the stream and live outside the lines right here and now in this moment, cause life is too short to wait for tomorrow.
Special thanks to our friends Susanna, Aodhan and Bridget for making this such a fun performance.
Lyrics:
V1.
Don’t wanna play it safe tonight
I wanna live outside the lines
Don’t box me in, or make me stay in place
You know I wanna break these chains
Give me some time just to work it out
cause I don’t wanna be part of the crowd
I know I’ve got something I can give
but sometimes I’m too afraid to live
Chorus.
But life is too short to wait for tomorrow
Make my choice and take a stand
wanna fight for what I believe
cause this moment is all that I have
V2.
There’s a song you were born to sing
a part that only you can play
Don’t tell yourself that you’re not enough
You know your future starts today
And don’t you conform to the mold they’ve made
cause that’s not who you’re meant to be
you could shine like a fire bright
so don’t be afraid to dream
Chorus.
Cause life is too short to wait for tomorrow
make your choice and take a stand
You can fight for what you believe
cause this moment is all that you have
Chorus.
Life is too short to wait for tomorrow
make a choice and take a stand
We can fight for what we believe
cause this moment is all that we have
